
This page will show some Pittsburgh Transit History, of the fun age. It is my goal to present a lot of photos for you to look through on this page, and the era is the mid 70's. PCC's galore in wild paint jobs! Gee, I was like 14 then...I'm getting up there I guess.

PCC 1976, a experimental LRV style car created in our South Hills Jct shops.
These were my favorites. I believe there were 3 made.

P.C.C. 1730 in a WILD paint job from the 70's The "Mod Desire"

Car 1726 casually rolling along near South Hills Jct.

1733 at the city side of the Smithfield St bridge, heading toward town.

1736 disguised like a loaf of bread at South Hills Junction

1744 waiting on a mechanic at the new car house at South Hills Village.

1758 all dolled up as the "last day" car for Mt. Lebanon. The new
LRT opened the next day.

1792 rolling down Grant Street in Pittsburgh.

Car 1799 on Grant Street too, just like many others before it.

This car had a reputation for accidents at night, no one could see it particulary
with that lone headlight...

PCC 1720 and a minor mishap on the way to Drake. This is on Bethel Church
road, before the overpass was made.

Pittsburgh National Bank ( now PNC ) car 1729 at South Hills Junction.

1776, the Spirit of 76, Red, White and Blue, at the South Hills Junction.

Another Bicentennial PCC, 1788. A bit tamer than 1776, coming inbound off
the Smithfield St. Bridge.

Here's the WPGH53 Trolley on the Old Fallowfield Bridge in Beechview. This
was numbered 1754

A kinda odd looking item was this double end PCC, #1780 in the 70's red &
white colors.

PCC 1744 in it's first paint job in the colorful era...Yellow and white.

The WPNT FM93 Trolley in the Blue scheme, with the fountain in the center
of the car. This car awaits its turn on the Smithfield Street Bridge.

PCC 1737 approaching Neeld Ave. from Potomac, Inbound.

Car 1738 was better know at times as the "Jenkins Arcade Car" Jenkins Arcade
is gone now too, replaced by Fifth Avenue Place.

PCC 1758 sitting at the Castle Shannon Municipal Building.

This is a general of the old South Hills Junction in
the colorful era.

Another favorite PCC the Triple Treat car. Great advertising for the Gateway Clipper Fleet. Too bad the "stacks" wouldn't fit in the transit tunnel...This car spent all of its time on the Allentown line.

1766, the "Army" car...easier to see in the daylight...In Bethel Park.
